The Abia State PDP gubernatorial candidate in the forth coming general election, Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who is the immediate past VC of Abia State University is dead.
He died today, the 25th of January 2023 at the National Hospital Abuja today, the 25th January 2023 by 04:00 am after a brief illness.
He was said to be recovering after spending months in the UK undergoing treatment, but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from.
A statement released by one of his sons reads:
“DEATH OF PROFESSOR ELEAZEAR UCHENNA IKONNE
“I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Prof Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who died at the National Hospital Abuja today, 25th January 2023 by 4am after a brief illness.
He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from.
Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family.

Meanwhile the Abia State PDP has not made a statement concerning naming a replacement for him.
