Hissène Habré the former President of Chad is dead. He died today 24th of August 2021 of COVID complications at the age of 79.
Born on the 13th of August 1942, he served as the President of Chad from 1982 until he was deposed in 1990 by Idriss Deby (now deceased).
In May 2016, he was found guilty by an international tribunal in Senegal of human-rights abuses, including rape, sexual slavery, and ordering the killing of 40,000 people, and sentenced to life in prison.
He was the first former head of state to be convicted for human rights abuses in the court of another nation.
