I have not stopped having sympathy for the IPOB cause. Not me. But I have always insisted that no one must be killed nor property destroyed. I don’t have any proof that IPOB killed any soul but I must not shy away from the fact that the situation they created gave rise to wastes of innocent blood.
In solidarity, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released. We live in a democratic society and the process of kidnapping him from Kenya was illegal. President Muhammadu Buhari is a democratically elected president of Nigeria. He must act according to the oath of his office. MNK, as a British citizen, must be released to the UK.
But, right now, it has to follow constitutional process. The Judiciary is a vital arm of democracy and they have processes. I strongly believe that the IPOB leader will be released via following the process.
That process has kick-started. He has appeared in court to plead not guilty to levelled charges. The next step is to grant him bail and finally to dismiss the whole charges as lacking merit based on the illegal manner of his extraordinary rendition. I believe that is why the British High Commission was represented in court.
Therefore, I don’t see how IPOB can force the release of Kanu before November 4th. Instead, the energy should be directed towards granting Kanu bail on November 10th.
IPOB was very wrongly declared a terrorist organisation by the President. They must prove to the international community that they remain law-abiding citizens. Kanu’s next case date is November 10th. Let’s all work towards granting bail on that day.
Now, let me say it one more time, that since all other four South East states have Governors that Anambra should not live-in isolation. IPOB has to rescind the sit-at-home home stance which will roll into Anambra election.
Let all the political parties in Anambra come together to hold meeting with leaders of IPOB. We must learn to negotiate. All these forceful announcements and likewise responses will not help the cause of the Igbo man. IPOB are human beings. Our leaders should learn to meet and reason with them whenever necessary.
IPOB should be made to see that Anambra State can’t afford to have a military administrator neither should we live in isolation as the only state in the South East without a Governor.
