They may pretend about it, but opponents now follow HE Peter Obi more than OBIdients. They now set their timetables based on the activities of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate. They are even attempting to speak extempore. They are using statistical data, whether accurate or not, these days to illustrate their claims. All thanks to the former governor of Anambra State. He promises to turn Nigeria around and he is already doing so by changing the mindset of his opponents.
The hirelings of the opposition pretend they’re fact-checking, but they’re rather learning from the master of issue-based campaign. They have no choice but to learn because all the obsolete attempts to lie and propagate against him are not working. The more they lie the more OBIdients increase in numbers.
This is the era of social media and the Nigerian youths, who are the bedrock of this organic support are far smarter than swallowing those bogus lies, hook, line and sinker. They are not even swallowing the bait of fake news the opposition are planting all over the place. The OBIdients have apps, they know the right websites to cross-check any information and they are frustrating this fake news tactic of the opposition.
Yesterday in Los Angeles, California, he held the audience spell-bound with his speech. This is no longer a news. Obi is now very used to wowing the audience. But this time around, it wasn’t with statistical data. It was rather his delivery – repeating almost same things the audience must have heard from him before, but exuding a top level of honesty, warmth, trademark humility and adorable practicability. All ingredients of trust and capacity!
Using India and China as examples of countries that experienced similar brain drain like Nigeria is presently witnessing, the man also called Okwute told his country people in Diaspora that Nigeria’s brain drain will become brain gain under his watch as president of Nigeria.
Such promises are easy to make. And hardly ever fulfilled by Nigerian politicians, but not when made by the man whose supporters go by the name OBIdients. Nigeria’s total export of crude oil in 2021 fetched the country $16 billion. Diaspora remittance into Nigeria in same year stood at over $19 billion. And this was estimated at 5% of their total earnings. This money was mainly for welfare and consumption.
Obi said he would make them part with at least 15% of this huge sum for investment in their country. And he meant every word. He explained that it was the Chinese and Indians that left their countries in the trying times for America and Europe, got better education and made money that eventually led investments in their respective countries that turned the two most populous countries in the universe into Asian giants and world economic powers.
“Nigeria’s own case won’t be any different. We need the right leadership to equally turn our brain drain into brain gain.”
All it needs for Nigerians in diaspora to start investing massively at home is the trust that such investments will be protected and that appropriate returns are guaranteed.
Obi has promised Security of lives and property as the top priority of his government. He has promised steady power supply that will improve steadily within four years, into the fifth. He has promised a production economy that will be export-oriented with less dependence on crude oil. Just these have guaranteed a very conducive atmosphere for investments.
The most important thing about it is that the people he was speaking to believe and trust him. That is the thrust of the OBIdient Movement. What most politicians in Nigeria do not have, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate has in abundance – PEOPLE’S TRUST.
That is the secret of the organic support Okwute enjoys. And it will continue to increase as February 25 approaches. No amount of lying, deceit and fake news casting from the opposition to derail this great man will succeed. The people are wiser now. They know the TRUTH, which Obi represents.
