The Police Service Commission (PSC) has suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police. DCP, Abba Kyari following recommendation made to the body by the Inspector-General of Police, over his alleged involvement in a $1.1 million fraud by internet fraudster Husspuppi.
Abba Kyari who heads the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force was implicated by Abbas Ramon popularly known as Hushpuppi to interrogators in U.S where he is being detained for internet fraud.
The news of Kyari’s, suspension was contained in a statement made by Ikechukwu Ani, Head Press and Public Relations of the Police Service Commission.
According to the statement, Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31st and subsists pending the outcome of the investigation into his indictment by the U.S investigation agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The Commission also asked the IGP to furnish it with information on the matter as it unfolds for further action.
Ani said: “The Commission’s decision which was conveyed in a letter with reference, PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the Inspector General of Police today, Sunday, August 1, was signed by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and PSC Commissioner 1 and the Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired IGP, who is currently on leave.”
